What are ANZ Visa Gift Cards?

ANZ Visa Gift Cards are non-reloadable prepaid cards that can be used for electronic purchases at merchant stores that accept Visa Gift cards.

Please note that while ANZ Prepaid Cards can be used at more than 500,000 Visa merchant locations Australia wide and many more overseas, currently the Woolworths group are declining to accept any Visa or MasterCard prepaid cards (including the ANZ Visa Gift Card) as a method of payment. What is the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

The ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card is a new Visa prepaid card that can allow your family and friends to access money in the Pacific

The ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card comes with two cards; one 'cardholder' card for you in Australia and one 'nominee' card for your nominated family member or friend in Fiji, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa or Tonga. Funds can be uploaded in Australia and accessed by the family member or friend holding the nominee card in the Pacific. Money can be deposited in Australia online via BPAY, or online via the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card Customer website at www.anz.com/prepaidcards. In the Pacific countries, the card can be used for POS purchases at any merchant that accepts VISA, or for cash withdrawals at an ATM that accepts VISA.

The product will initially be offered for use in Australia and Fiji, PNG, Tonga and Samoa.

Getting your ANZ Prepaid Card
Getting your ANZ prepaid card is easy as we do not require a credit check (exceptions apply for Corporate orders of prepaid cards). Read below to find out how.
Where do I get an ANZ Visa Gift Card / Student Rights Prepaid Visa Card / MySpace Recharge Prepaid Visa Card?
  • ANZ Visa Gift Card: available at selected retail outlets such as 7-Eleven and Australia Post outlets, and Kiosks at selected ANZ branches. The ANZ branches with Kiosks are:

How many cards will be issued if I order a ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Two cards will be issued, one to the Cardholder who is a resident of Australia who applied for the cards, and the other to the Nominee who is a resident of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa or Tonga.

Will my name appear on the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

No, your name will not appear as it will be printed as "Prepaid Cardholder" for the Cardholder and the Nominee.

Are there any other means of obtaining a ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card, other then online?

Only the Cardholder living in Australia can apply for the Pacific Money Transfer Card online anz.com/prepaidcards.

Who can be a Cardholder for a ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Any person who is residing in Australia with an Australian postal address (excluding PO Boxes.)

Who can be a Nominated Recipient for a ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Any person living in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa or Tonga.

Will I need an existing ANZ bank account to be eligible for a ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

No, both the Cardholder and Nominee do not require existing ANZ bank accounts to be eligible.

Are the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer cards issued to the Cardholder and Nominee individual to each other?

Yes, the cards issued to both the Cardholder and Nominee have unique card numbers, however both cards access the same available balance, being the funds loaded by the Cardholder.

Will the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card have funds on it when it is mailed?

No, the card will be inactive when mailed to both the Cardholder and Nominee and will have a 'Zero' balance.

Are there restrictions on the number of ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Cards a Cardholder or Nominee can obtain?

Yes, a Cardholder is restricted to a maximum of 5 cards at any time and a Nominee is restricted to a maximum of 5 cards at any time.

ANZ Visa Gift Cards purchased from selected retail outlets will be activated and ready for use within 24 hours of purchase. Cards purchases from Kiosk at selected ANZ branches will be activated and ready for use immediately once payment is successfully completed.

Corporate ANZ Visa Gift Card - from the company who ordered and provided the card to you

Gift Cards maintain a suspend status when they are despatched. The company who ordered and provided the card to you will need to have activated the cards via a self-serviced secure web tool before they are ready for use.

Student Rights Prepaid Visa Card

Student Rights cardholders must activate their card at www.anz.com/prepaidcards. Once activated, load funds via BPAY / (fees apply) and start using your card.The card also acts as a Students Rights member card after you have registered at www.studentrights.com.au. Being a Student Rights member entitles you to unique student benefits or discounts , which are listed at www.studentrights.com.au. If you have any questions with the Student Rights promotions, email info@studentrights.com.au.

Student Rights members that activate their Student Rights prepaid card and load it with funds will have access to exclusive Student Rights offers during the year. Members will receive priority access to some special events and also restricted areas of the student rights website.

You can use your ANZ Prepaid Card for electronic purchases at stores that accept Visa prepaid cards, subject to the available balance and expiry date on your card. This includes purchases made outside Australia (purchases made in foreign currency are subject to an Overseas Transaction fee of 3% of the AUD amount,in addition to ATM Operator fees).

When using your ANZ Prepaid Card for in-store purchases:

  1. Swipe your ANZ Prepaid Card;

  2. Select the Credit button on the merchant terminal;

  3. If the merchant terminal requests a PIN:

          a. For ANZ Visa Gift Cards - select the OK button; or

          b. For ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Cards – enter your PIN and select the OK button

How do I use my card for online purchases?

You can use your ANZ Prepaid Card for online purchases at stores that accept Visa prepaid cards, subject to the available balance and expiry date on your card. This includes online purchases made in foreign currency (purchases made in foreign currency are subject to an Overseas Transaction fee of 3% of the AUD amount,in addition to ATM Operator fees).

When using your ANZ Prepaid Card for online purchases:

  1. Ensure your card is activated, ensure your card has not expired and know the available balance on your card

  2. Enter your 16 digit card number;

  3. Enter your card expiry date and

  4. Enter your CVV2 digits

How do I use my card for ATM Cash Withdrawals?

The ANZ Visa Gift Card does not have ATM capabilities and therefore, cannot be used for ATM cash withdrawals.

The ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Card (B2C) - $1000 maximum value load with ATM access,has ATM capabilities and can be used for ATM cash withdrawals. Please refer to the Fees/Limits tab to understand the fees and charges that apply. In addition to the fees outlined in the Fee table, some ATM operators may impose their own fees. You accept these fees when you proceed with the transaction at the ATM. All ATM fees and charges will be automatically deducted from your available card balance.

What if I want to buy something that costs more than the Available Balance?

You can use the Available Balance on your ANZ Prepaid Card to pay for a portion of your purchase and use another method of payment to cover the difference. Check with the Visa merchant to ensure they will allow you to make partial payment using your ANZ Prepaid Card and another payment method for the balance of your purchase.

If you make or attempt to make a purchase that exceeds your Available Balance, then you will be liable for any Negative Balance (i.e. overdrawn card) along with any costs or interest we incur in recovering or attempting to recover the amount you owe ANZ.

What if I use all the money on my card?

  • ANZ Visa Gift Card: Once you have used all the funds on your ANZ Visa Gift Card, it is invalid and can no longer be used. Please destroy your card by cutting it diagonally in half through the magnetic strip.

  • ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Card: You can load additional funds onto your card via BPAY or 7-Eleven outlets (fees apply). Refer to the “Reloading your card” section to find out more.

  • ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Card (B2C) - $1000 maximum value load with ATM access or $5000 maximum value load with no cash access: only the company that ordered and provided the card to you can reload the card.

Can transactions occur in any currency on the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

No, transactions can be made electronically in Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga where Visa prepaid is accepted in. An Overseas Transaction fee will be charged on all transactions completed in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga. All charges completed in a currency other than Australian dollars will be converted to Australian dollars before the transaction is completed.

How can the Nominee access funds using their ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

The Nominee can access funds on the card at any ATM accepting Visa, at EFTPOS terminals as a Purchase and where VISA logo is displayed.

How can I find out transaction details on the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

There are two methods of finding out about transactions on your card/s. If you are the Cardholder, you can call ANZ Prepaid Cards, or you log on to www.anz.com/prepaidcards and enter you card details. If you are the Nominee, you can only find out transaction details by calling ANZ Prepaid Cards, or asking the Cardholder to check your balance.

Will there be any SMS functionality available for the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

If you are the Nominee, an SMS will be sent to you with the available balance on the card after each transaction. For this feature to be available, your mobile number must have been provided by the Cardholder during the application process. If you are the Cardholder, and you would like to receive an SMS with the available balance after each transaction, you will have to register for this feature when registering both cards online. Please note, this feature will have additional charges as listed in the Product Disclosure Statement.

What currency will the balance be listed in for the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

The balance will be listed in AUD currency.

Will statements be issued for the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

No, statements will not be made available. However, the Cardholder can log in at www.anz.com/prepaid to view the transaction history

Yes, the maximum daily load limit is up to AUD $500.00.

Is there a limit on the funds that can be used each day to make purchases (including cash advances) on the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Yes, the maximum daily spend limit (including cash advances) is up to AUD $500.00.

Is there a maximum limit of funds that can be loaded on the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Yes, the maximum limit that can be loaded on the card within a 30 day period is AUD $2,500.00 and within a 12 month period is AUD $9,999.99.

Yes, the maximum allowable limit on the card is up to AUD $500.00.

Your transaction may have been unsuccessful for one of the following reasons:

  • Your ANZ Prepaid Card has not been activated and loaded with value

    • What do you do? Log into www.anz.com/prepaidcards (at no cost) or phone 1800 773 720 to hear the balance of your card via the automated phone service ($1.20 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance). If no funds have been loaded onto your card, email prepaidcards@anz.com or phone 1800 773 720 to speak to a Live Operator. If the ANZ Visa Gift Card was ordered and provided to you by a company, then the company will need to have activated the card via a self-serviced secure web tool before they are ready for use.

  • You are not selecting the Credit button

    • what do you do? Select the CR (i.e. credit) button for all your purchases. If the merchant terminal asks for a PIN:
      • For ANZ Visa Gift Cards: select the OK button to proceed; or

      • For ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Cards: submit your PIN and select the OK button to proceed.

  • The purchase amount is greater than the available balance on your ANZ Prepaid Card

    • What do you do? Log into www.anz.com/prepaidcards (at no cost) or phone 1800 773 720 ($1.20 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance) to check the balance of your card and ensure your purchase amount does not exceed the card balance. (Note: you may still be able to use the balance on your card to pay a portion of your purchase and use another method of payment to cover the difference)

  • Merchants whose payment policy is to refuse acceptance of the following:

    • ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Cards: at present, the Woolworths Group do not accept ANZ Reloadable prepaid cards. These stores include Woolworths, Safeway, BIG W, Dick Smith Electronics, Power House, Tandy, Caltex Woolworths, Caltex Safeway, Woolworths Liquor, Safeway Liquor, Woolworths homeshop, Safeway homeshop, BWS, Dan Murphy



  • Tolerance / authorisation holds have been added to your purchase and the total amount is greater than the available balance on your ANZ Prepaid Card

    • At times, restaurants, taxis, hotels and car rental agencies will add a tolerance amount for “incidentals” e.g. tips, hotel mini-bar usage, car damages, etc. In addition to your purchase amount:

          • Hotels, Mail order, cruise lines and car rental agencies will add a further 15%

          • Taxis will add a further 20%

    • For example, if you use your ANZ Prepaid Card to check-in at a hotel where your accommodation is $100, the merchant will automatically swipe your card and “hold” $115 even though you may not signed for any amount on your receipt. If the available balance on your card is less than $115 then the transaction will decline. If you have sufficient balance on your card to cover the $115 and did not occur any incidentals during your stay e.g. using the mini-bar, then the $15 should be “released” back onto your ANZ Prepaid Card when the transaction has settled. Similarly, car rental agencies may “hold” funds to cover possible damages for up to 30 days before they are “released” back on to your card.

    • What do you do? Ensure you have sufficient available on your card to cover Tolerance at restaurants/taxis and avoid using your card for hotel reservations and at car rental agencies.

  • Your ANZ Prepaid Card has been suspended or closed

    • What do you do? email prepaidcards@anz.com or phone 1800 773 720 to speak to a Live Operator ($4.00 fee applies per call - deducted from your card balance).

  • Your ANZ Prepaid Card is damaged

    • What do you do? Email prepaidcards@anz.com or phone 1800 773 720 to speak to a Live Operator ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance).

  • Your ANZ Prepaid Card has expired

    • ANZ Visa Gift Card: Once your card has expired, it is invalid and can no longer be used. Please destroy by cutting it diagonally in half through the magnetic strip. (Note: any funds remaining on the card after card expiry are forfeited)

    • ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Card: Once your card has expired, it is invalid and can no longer be used. ANZ will reissue a new card with the remaining available balance (less Card Reissue Fee) to the address you last provided.

Does the ANZ Prepaid Card have any restrictions?

You cannot use your ANZ Prepaid Card:

  • When the merchant does not have an electronic processing capability

  • For ATM Balance Enquiries if your card does not have ATM cash withdrawal access

  • For recurring payment, direct debits or instalments

  • At gambling merchants or websites

  • At the automated fuel dispenser at petrol stations. You must pay for the petrol purchase at the petrol station counter

  • To obtain cash over the counter at a financial institution or merchant

  • To make purchases in excess of your available balance (Note: only the portion up to your ANZ prepaid card balance may be made)

  • At merchants displaying the Visa logo whose payment policy is to refuse the acceptance of Visa prepaid cards.

ANZ Visa Gift Cards cannot be reloaded. Cards purchased at selected retail outlets have values of either $50 or $100. The Reloadable prepaid card can be reloaded via :

        Please note that if your reload includes both cash and cheque payments in the one transaction (e.g. $100 reload, being $60 in cash and $40 via cheque payment), then the 15-20 business days timeframe will apply. If you wish for the cash component to be credited to your card the next business day, ANZ suggests that you process the cash and cheque payments as two separate transactions whereby the participating ANZ Merchant fee of $3.45 will be incurred for each transaction.

What if my reload via BPAY or 7-Eleven would cause my card to exceed its Maximum Available Balance?

ANZ will only load your card up to the maximum available balance and the excess will be quarantined. For example, your ANZ Prepaid Card has a maximum available balance of $1000. At the time of your reload, your card balance is $600. You reload your card with $500. Your card will be loaded with $400 and $100 is quarantined. The $100 will be available within 24 hours after your card balance has reduced to $900.

Can the cardholder and nominee both load funds onto the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

No, only the cardholder can load funds onto the card. This can be through BPAY or online via the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card Customer website at www.anz.com/prepaidcards.

How can funds be loaded onto the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Only the cardholder can load funds onto the card. There are two options to load funds onto your card. You can load funds via BPAY or visit www.anz.com/prepaidcards and load funds via the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card customer website.

What happens if I try to load an amount that exceeds the card load limit of AUD $500.00?

If you try to load more than AUD $500.00 onto the card or try to load an amount that would take your current card balance above AUD$500.00, your entire transaction will be unsuccessful and no funds will be loaded onto the card. If you attempt such a load online, your load attempt will be rejected immediately. If you attempt such a load via BPAY, your load attempt will be rejected, but it can take up to 5 business days after your attempted load for your funds to be available to you again.

The first time you log in to check your balance online (at no cost)at www.anz.com/prepaidcards you will need to submit the following information:

1. Your 16 digit card number;

2. Your CVV2 digits (last 3 digits on the back of your card); and

3. Your Personal Access Code / Password (8 digits printed on the sleeve of the card packaging)

4. Nominate a User ID

5. Nominate a Password

You will be logged out and requested to log in again with the User ID and Password you nominated. You will then be requested to submit your Name, Address, Date of Birth, Mobile number, e-mail address and Secret Code (the Secret Code is to be selected by you).This completes your registration for the online Transaction History service.

For all subsequent logins, you will only be required to submit your nominated User ID and Password

If you provided your mobile number when you first logged in at www.anz.com/prepaidcards, by sending a request to +61 417 555 883, you may obtain either your card.s available balance or last five transactions via SMS at a fee of $0.25 per request.

How do I check my card balance and transaction history via the automated phone service?

You can call the automated phone service on 1800 773 720 ($1.20 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance) to hear your card balance and the last 10 transactions. You will be required to submit your card number and its CVV2 digits (3 digits on the back of the card next to the signature panel).

If you would like to speak to a Live Operator regarding your balance and/or transaction history, call 1800 773 720 ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance).

What if I forget my User ID?

If you forget your User ID for the online Transaction History service, you can retrieve these details by:

  1. Visiting www.anz.com/prepaidcards

  2. Select the “Forgotten User ID & Password” link in the Customer Login box

  3. Enter the following information: ANZ prepaid card number, Date of Birth and CVV2 digits

  4. Click on “Retrieve”

Once the information is validated, your User ID will be displayed on the screen.

What if I forget my password?

You will need to phone ANZ on 1800 773 720 ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance). Once you have been properly identified by the Live Operator, your password will be quoted to you.

The Personal Access Code / Password enables you to log into your card details at www.anz.com/prepaidcards (at no cost)

The first time you log into www.anz.com/prepaidcards, the Personal Access Code / Password for ANZ Reloadable Prepaid Cards (B2C) - $1000 with ATM access or $5000 with no cash access, is the unique 8 digit code printed on your card carrier.

The first time you log into www.anz.com/prepaidcards, the Personal Access Code / Password for ANZ Visa Gift Cards and Student Rights Prepaid Visa Cards is the 8 digit code (i.e. 99999999) that was printed on the sleeve of the card packaging, or on your receipt if your ANZ Visa Gift Card was purchased from a Kiosk at an ANZ branch. What if I am locked out of the online Transaction History service?

You will be locked out the online Transaction History service if you incorrectly enter your password 3 times. In this instance, you will need to contact ANZ on 1800 773 720 ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance) and your password will be reset once you have been positively identified.

What if I want to dispute a transaction on my ANZ Prepaid Card?

If you are unsure about a particular transaction and wish to dispute it, you must notify ANZ immediately as Visa operating rules impose time limits, generally 75 days from when the transaction was made. If you do not notify ANZ in time, ANZ may be unable to investigate your claim and you will be liable for the transaction.

You may start the transaction dispute process when you log into the online Transaction History service (at no cost) or via 1800 773 700 ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance)

Please note that transaction disputes resulting from lost or stolen ANZ Prepaid Card will not be processed. If the transaction(s) incurred before your card is reported as lost and stolen to ANZ.

When viewing my transaction history, what does “pending” mean?

Sometimes there is a delay between when you conducted the purchase transaction and when the merchant presents the transaction to ANZ or their financial institution for payment. A notice of “pending” is a “hold” on the funds, ensuring they are available when the transaction is settled. This usually occurs a few days after you made the purchase.

Will I get a monthly statement for my ANZ Prepaid Card?

Is there an expiry date for the ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card?

Yes, both cards will have an expiry date of up to 36 months after being issued. The expiry date can be found on the front of your card.

 

What do I do if my ANZ Pacific Money Transfer Card is lost, stolen or damaged?

If you are the cardholder and your card is lost, stolen or damaged, you can call Customer Assistance and request a new card to be issued. Both you and your nominee will be issued new cards. If you are the nominee, you can only call Customer Assistance and report your card being lost, stolen or damaged. Your cardholder will have to request a new card on your behalf, and only you will be issued with a new card and PIN.

If your card is lost or stolen, immediately mark your card as lost or stolen by logging into www.anz.com/prepaidcards (at no cost) or by calling ANZ Customer Assistance on 1800 773 770 to speak to a Live Operator ($4.00 fee applies per call – deducted from your card balance). You are liable for the losses that occur before your card is marked as lost and stolen.
